It is with great interest that I seek employment within the Rapid City Area School District 51-4. I specifically am looking for a full-time teaching position in an elementary or middle school setting. I currently live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. However, I will be moving to Rapid City July 2004, and am very interested in beginning my full-time teaching career with a school in the district. As a fully credentialed South Dakota (Certificate #65380-00), California, and Colorado teacher who holds the skills you are seeking, I believe I am a strong candidate for employment. Furthermore, I am No Child Left Behind (NCLB) compliant, and thus considered highly qualified to teach within the district.
I currently hold a South Dakota Teaching Certificate with an Education Staff Assignment Authorization 203, K-8 Elementary Education W/5-8 Mid, and a Degree Program Authorization 460, Elementary Education. Furthermore, I hold Endorsement Program Authorizations 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 5-8 Middle Level Education Language Arts, Social Science, Natural Science, and Mathematics respectively. My related experience includes three semesters of student teaching, and a long-term substitute position following graduation. The long-term substitute position was bestowed upon me by my master teacher, Jami Bowidowicz, who was pregnant and on maternity leave. Mrs. Bowidowicz believed that I was the best candidate for the position because of my outstanding teaching abilities and my positive report with the students. Through the experience, I gained a thorough understanding of full-time teaching duties which included: short-term and long-term lesson planning, scheduling of activities, team-teaching, maintaining an active learning environment, organizing parent-teacher conferences, and completing the end of year grade reports, among numerous other responsibilities.
As a teacher, I feel that student learning and success in the classroom is paramount, thus I work hard to make sure that all students learn and grow in my class. I develop a student-centered classroom where all students are provided the opportunity to learn. I present material in a manner that sparks student interest. To help foster student interest and growth, I use various teaching methods that include hands-on learning, manipulatives, visual and performing arts, music, diagrams, technology, oral presentations, group work, and thematic units. I also created a positive environment that motivates students and encourages their academic and social success.
The prospect of teaching within the Rapid City Area School District is very exciting to me. A position will provide me the opportunity to be where I am most comfortable, in the classroom, creatively teaching students and helping them develop as individual learners and thinkers. I am certain that I will be a valuable asset to both the school, and the district, and hope that I will have the opportunity to prove myself. I hope that you will consider me for any upcoming employment opportunities.
Please take some time to review my resume and on-line portfolio. I look forward to hearing from you soon to schedule an interview. Thank you for your consideration.
