One week ago was my birthday.
Being a mathematician, I note that if I write my age in Roman numerals, and you write your age in Roman numerals, then my age never appears before your age, alphabetically.
How old am I?

Presuming you meant you’d write my age, not my name…
You are 38 years old.
38 = XXXVIII, which comes alphabetically after
37 = XXXVII (one fewer I)
39 = XXXIX (V comes after I)
40 = XL (L comes before X)
And nothing outside of the 30s begins with XXX, X being the furthest letter down the alphabet that appears in a Roman numeral (CDILMVX).
Oops… thanks for catching the typo, Jim. I’ve fixed it.
