One of the jobs of my new supervisor gig is to handle waitlists for classes each semester, a tasked handled by an extraordinarily program colloquially known as DataHell. DataHell indicates the status of waitlisted students as Active (meaning they’re still on the waitlist), Dropped (meaning they’ve left the waitlist), or Permission of Instructor (meaning they’re on the waitlist and had the instructor waive some prerequisite). However, the DataHell GUI can only display so many letters, and so the latter field gets abbreviated in the most delightfully Hogwartsian way.
